The Trump administration wants to crack down on sugary drinks in the U.S. and ban some of them from selling in grocery stores.
President Donald Trump is set to sign the executive order in the coming days.
The order is intended to prevent Americans from buying sugary beverages like sports drinks and diet sodas that have more than 20 grams of sugar per serving.
The White House says it is trying to prevent a spike in the number of people who die of obesity.
“The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that Americans have access to the healthful and nutritious products they need,” the administration said in a statement.
Health and Human Service Secretary Sylvia Burwell said last month that the agency is trying “to identify the most effective ways to prevent and reduce the health consequences of sugar consumption.”
